Willow Creek has a better way. Through seasons of extensive exploration, Willow has sought out dozens of smaller watersheds that cannot be accessed by traditional floatplane. Streams that tumble through the Alaskan wilderness, untrampled by hordes of anglers. The lodge uses a helicopter to drop anglers into these remote locations, with the plan to float back out to "civilization" over the next five days. Along the way, anglers should experience some of the best fishing Alaska has to offer.

Giant rainbows are a season-round target for Willow Creek guests. Rainbows in the 4- to 6-pound range are taken on a daily basis, while far larger 8- to 12-pounders are not uncommon. Each season, trout in the range of l5 pounds are landed by camp guests. And not just one or two - many weeks a group of six anglers may tally up l0 to 20 rainbows in excess of 25 to 27 inches. Early in the summer, expect dry fly and mousing action, while later season weeks will feature big rainbows feeding heavily on drifting salmon eggs.

Chunky dolly varden, colorful arctic char and exotic grayling are also constantly on the menu during these trips.

And if your interest is in Pacific salmon, you'll have plenty of opportunities. King salmon begin to arrive in mid- to late June, and run close to 20 pounds on average. Thirty-, even 40-pounders are not uncommon, and a great challenge on these remote, sometimes narrow streams. As the summer progresses, anglers can challenge pink, sockeye, chum and even silvers, though the king run is clearly the highlight of the salmon migration.

Guests float these rivers in top-quality rubber rafts, with experienced guides for each pair of anglers. The terrain can be rugged at times, but the guides will take care of all the camp duties as well as making sure each angler has a memorable time on the water.
